Stories of Hope -- Tom from Traverse City, MI
When one door closes another one opens. Tom G., a former District Judge from Traverse City, Michigan believes that wholeheartedly. He resigned from his position on the bench in 2007 to start up Touchstone Intervention & Professional Services, a company that offers intervention services to the families of people battling addiction, something he has dealt with for much of his life. He has spent time in treatment for both alcohol and drug abuse and recently sought help at the COR Retreat, a food recovery program in Wayzata, Minnesota, for yet another addiction – an addiction to food. “I have been a compulsive overeater for a long time,” he said. “I just eat too much of everything and a lot of junk food.”
After learning about COR Retreat, he decided to sign up and is glad he did. The COR Retreat is a 5-day, 4-night program that teaches a way to live free from the obsession with food and the excess weight it causes.
“What was most impressive to me about the program was the companionship of others on the same journey as me, and learning about a spiritual program of healing,” he said. “I also learned how to prepare and eat good, healthy food, and how to recover from food addiction.”
